Extracurricular and Capstone
Mentorship

Grades and test scores open the door. Extracurriculars and capstone projects are what pull you through it.

Why a Capstone Matters

Perfect grades are no longer enough. With over 26,000 high schools in America, there are more valedictorians, debate captains, and varsity athletes than seats at elite universities. What admissions officers really want to know is: what distinctive contribution will you bring to campus?

A strong capstone project answers that question. It becomes the foundation of the strongest entries on a student's Activities List and the backbone for unforgettable college essays. For competitive admissions, a capstone can be a decisive advantage.

What makes a capstone project successful?

A successful capstone project:

  • Solves a real-world problem with a creative and memorable solution.
  • Delivers measurable results on goals (people helped, funds raised, etc.) and has the potential to grow in scope over 3–4 years.
  • Takes an interdisciplinary approach by combining multiple interests or skills in a unique way (for example, mixing art and technology or science and policy).
  • Helps the community and is grounded in service and positive impact on others.
  • Aligns with your personal narrative as well as your hybrid identity and application themes.
